Want Quality Software Testing? Lose The Ambition
In this episode of the TPM podcast show Jason Schadewald, a Product Manager at Parasoft, shares his insights on testing software with embedded devices. Working with devices requires a different approach to traditional app development for web browsers or OSes. You can’t just rely on unit tests alone when building software for devices, behavior on the devices itself can be very different from the engineer PCs. Each device might have its own quirks and you often have to compensate for the absence of standard services one would expect in a full OS. Ironically, the less complex the device the more complex the testing since you have to compensate for what is missing. Jason explains that the trick to great software testing is to avoid grand visions and ambition and simply start tackling each small test problem on its own. You can always stitch everything together into a complete testing process later.
